Part of a family estate comprising a late 18th century château, this lovely, honey stoned building had not been lived in for 400 years. Working closely with local architectural historians the conversion into a 21st century home was very carefully handled. The staircase, which is narrow and winding, did not allow access for the scale of furniture required for the very large, open plan spaces. Everything had to be brought in half way through the build through large window openings which were subsequently closed up! French oak felled in the storms of 1999 were used to create divisions between the spaces and for the joinery. Furniture was sourced in London, Paris and New York. The shell work sconces and mirrors are by Thomas Boog in Paris.
